After struggling for years to figure out what to do with my old appliances, I realized that working with professional technicians to get them fixed up would probably be a good idea. I was nervous about the idea of investing in appliance services, but friends and family members told me that it was the right thing to do. When I found a great team, I talked with them about what they covered and how they could help. It was amazing to see how much they cared about my appliances and what they did to keep things running smoothly. Check out this blog for more information on appliance services.
Having your washing machine start leaking water all over the floor can be a bit disheartening. However, washing machine leaks are not always as hard to fix as you might imagine. There are three common places where washing machines spring leaks, and a few of them are actually easy to address on your own. Here's a look:
Remember to turn off power to your washing machine before you begin inspecting it or attempting any repairs.
The Supply Hose
One of the most common places washing machines start leaking is at the supply hose, which is the hose that brings the water into the washing machine. This hose usually connects to the machine in the back. If you see drips of water running down it, then it is leaking. You may just need to twist the metal screw around the end of the hose and tighten it a little. If this does not work, turn off the valve that supplies water to the washer. Then, unscrew the hose on both ends and take it with you to the hardware store to find a new one of the same size. Screw it into shape, and your leak should be fixed.
The Internal Hose
The internal hose that brings the water from the supply hose into the machine's main compartment may also be damaged and leaking. Remove the front panel of the washing machine, and take a look at the black hose that runs across the space. If it seems to be dripping or has any cuts in it, then it needs to be replaced. Depending on your washing machine model, you may or may not be able to easily unscrew and replace this hose yourself. If you're struggling, you can always call an appliance repair team to make this simple fix.
The Pump
If both of the hoses seem to be in good shape, then the washing machine's pump might be leaking. This typically results in water coming out of the bottom of the washing machine. Replacing the pump is a more involved repair job that you won't want to attempt yourself. It is also a bit more costly than the other repairs on this list. So, if you have an older washing machine, you may want to consider getting a whole new washer rather than replacing the water pump and risking having something else break in the next couple of months.
